June 15th - 17th - My weekend in Paris!

I went to Paris and spent 3 spectacular days in maybe my favourite city in the world. I went to France and spent 3 days in Paris back in 2012 with my school and this city is so stunning in the summer time. I was lucky enough to see Michelle whilst I was there, and get to do some fun adventures with her!

Day one consisted of me almost missing catching my Eurostar train to Paris, and once I got there and found my way to Michelle's hotel, where she was letting me stay, I met up with my friend Katie, who I had seen a few weeks ago in London, and we hung out at the Musee D'Orsay, specifically to look at the Impressionist works. Edward Degas is my favourite painter, and getting to see his studies of the ballet dancers at the Paris Ballet made me quite emotional, I won't lie. Katie snapped a picture of me being super emotional. And then I headed back to the hotel to see Michelle!! We hadn't seen each other in about 3 years so getting to see her and catch up was amazing. And then to top it off, I got to be her plus one to a gala dinner at the Eiffel Tower!!! What!?!

A view from the Hotel - i'm such a sucker for the architecture

Walking along the Seine

Some cool street art along the Seine, based on another picture we later saw in the Louvre

A bad picture of Katie because the light in the cafe was awful

Little Dancer, by Edward Degas. The original cast with the original clothes

Katie with the painting that started the Impressionist period
Me, crying, in front of a Degas painting

I told an incredibly inappropriate joke and caught Katie's genuine reaction.

Michelle and I and the Eiffel Tower!

Now onto Day 2!
Michelle let me sleep in, because bless her, but I was still up and having breakfast in St. Michel by 9:30. Today I saw a few sights, hung out in Montmartre with Katie, and went to the Louvre with Michelle! Here are those pictures:

Parisians do Breakfast right - coffee, pastries, and juice. God bless the french.

And then a trip to see one of my favourite things: The line to get into Notre Dame!

Visited Shakespeare and Company

Had some wine and crepes midday in Cafe de Deux Moulin, the Two Windmills, which is where Amelie works in the film, Amelie!

Spent a good amount of time looking for Ewan McGreggor

Outside the Louvre!

V for Victory!

I'm an adult, I promise

The inspiration for that street art!

And finally, day 3!

Michelle and I had to say goodbye after breakfast as she was heading off to Versaille and I had to head back to London. I still had a few hours and an unlimited metro card, so I visited the Rodin Museum, The Eiffel tower during the day, and Saint Martin's Canal, as well as other places! Then I hopped on a train and headed back to the boys! This trip was everything I could have imagined, and I am so so so glad that it worked out that I could see Michelle!

The Thinker, at the Musee Rodin

The Sculpture garden at the Musee Rodin - Only 2 Euros!

There is a theme with me and Ice Cream (it was Pistachio and it was delicious)

The Eiffel tower was once thought of as a phallic disgrace to the French Skyline. I think it's alright

Paris Opera House! Where Phantom of the Opera takes place, and where Anastasia stomps on Dimitri's foot in the 1997 animated film

Last minute stop at St. Martin's Canal, where Amelie skips her stones.

A quick coffee before I got on the train home!

May 4th & 6th - British Library and Hyde Park

I had done some research, which was just me googling "cutest cafes in london" and had found one relatively close to the British Library and decided that that was where I would start my day off! I had gotten the boys to school that morning, and took the tube to Kings Cross St Pancras, where I was greeted with this gorgeous view of St Pancras station. I don't think i'll ever be bored of this city. I then went to a cafe called Drink Shop Do, which is a cafe, bar, and craft market all at once! It's got some beautiful art that was on the walls and for sale, and the calendar of events looked very interesting! I bought myself a hot chocolate because I was in the mood for it, and sat down. Something i've noticed about London is that everything is lit by natural lighting. They love it here and so do I. Everywhere that there can be a window, there is. And then it was off to the British Library. I wasn't willing to shell out the 20 quid to get into the ...

April 22nd - Day in London

Sara and I decided that today would be my first day in London, and I was thrilled. We took the train in from Kettering, and arrived at St. Pancras station. St. Pancras is right next to Kings Cross, and that is somewhere that I will be returning to. But onto the day’s events. We then took the tube to Covent Gardens, which to my surprise were not a garden at all, but a really beautiful shopping center. We wandered around, listened to some beautiful music by a string quintet, and the grabbed some lunch. We shared starters, which were Sliced Beets and Shallots, and then she had chicken for lunch and I had pasta. Then we just wandered. We went to Trafalgar Square, which was housing a big celebration for St. George’s day, so I couldn’t really see or wander around. But! I did see the hilarious statue called “Really Good” which is just a big thumbs up pointed directly at parliament. Bit sarcastic, innit? Then we went to have a drink in an English pub in Soho called the Flying Horse. And we sat...

April 21st - Stamford and Cambridge

This was my first real outing. We packed up and headed to Burghley House in Stamford. Sara had checked the times, and it should have been opened. But when we got there, there was a sign that had the opening times, and it was open every day except Fridays. Oh well. We still got to see the exterior through the gates and the house is beautiful. We also drove through and wandered around Stamford, which was where part of the 2004 Pride and Prejudice movie was filmed. I discovered this at lunchtime and got very excited. There was also a family riding in a horse drawn carriage with a man on the back playing trumpet. Yeah… We thought that only happened in movies. Me at Burghley House The famous Stamford Bridge And then we went off to Cambridge! We could spend a weekend there and still have things to do, but we only had about two hours. We walked around a bit, and then went to see Kings College, which is a college that is apart of the University of Cambridge. They have a beautiful chapel there,...
