First days as an Au Pair

My first days as an au pair are what i would refer to as eventful. Not bad, not the best, but eventful. Don’t get me wrong, things have been going incredibly smoothly, and the family and kids and I are getting along super well, but i’m just exhausted. I’m used to sleeping in and eating crappy foods, but now i’m cooking for the boys and they need to be balanced meals and i’m eating at proper meals times and my day starts at quarter to 7 and i’m just tired.

But i’m loving every minute of it.

Genuinely I love what i’m doing. I have busy times, which are very busy, but then I can do whatever I want during the days and I get nice cuddles at night and I get to hear all about their days, and help with spelling. despite me being tired 100% of the time right now, I do love what i’m doing.

So details!

The kids i’m looking after are 2 and 5 right now, and they’re bundles of energy. Teddy, the youngest, woke up this morning a bit early and had to use the bathroom, and then he got cuddled into bed with me for about 20 minutes. I took him to swimming lessons yesterday, and he’s learning how to starfish float, and was very good at it.

Charlie is a very opinionated 5 year old, who loves tuna pasta and the song You’re Welcome from Moana. He is in1st year and is, like me, very tired in the mornings.

Things have been alright though. There are a lot of moving parts to this job, which I knew before coming in to this, but I didn’t know the extent to it.

I also made some friends! On Monday night, I went to an au pair meet up at a local restaurant and met some new people! We’re all going out for thai food and some drinks next week!

Needless to say, i’m finding my footing. More about my first solo trip into London soon :)

May 4th & 6th - British Library and Hyde Park

I had done some research, which was just me googling "cutest cafes in london" and had found one relatively close to the British Library and decided that that was where I would start my day off! I had gotten the boys to school that morning, and took the tube to Kings Cross St Pancras, where I was greeted with this gorgeous view of St Pancras station. I don't think i'll ever be bored of this city. I then went to a cafe called Drink Shop Do, which is a cafe, bar, and craft market all at once! It's got some beautiful art that was on the walls and for sale, and the calendar of events looked very interesting! I bought myself a hot chocolate because I was in the mood for it, and sat down. Something i've noticed about London is that everything is lit by natural lighting. They love it here and so do I. Everywhere that there can be a window, there is. And then it was off to the British Library. I wasn't willing to shell out the 20 quid to get into the ...

April 22nd - Day in London

Sara and I decided that today would be my first day in London, and I was thrilled. We took the train in from Kettering, and arrived at St. Pancras station. St. Pancras is right next to Kings Cross, and that is somewhere that I will be returning to. But onto the day’s events. We then took the tube to Covent Gardens, which to my surprise were not a garden at all, but a really beautiful shopping center. We wandered around, listened to some beautiful music by a string quintet, and the grabbed some lunch. We shared starters, which were Sliced Beets and Shallots, and then she had chicken for lunch and I had pasta. Then we just wandered. We went to Trafalgar Square, which was housing a big celebration for St. George’s day, so I couldn’t really see or wander around. But! I did see the hilarious statue called “Really Good” which is just a big thumbs up pointed directly at parliament. Bit sarcastic, innit? Then we went to have a drink in an English pub in Soho called the Flying Horse. And we sat...
